Naming Education

World of Warcraft is filled with a variety of people from all backgrounds, ages, and groups with vastly different norms, mores and social rules. This really shouldn’t be news to anyone who’s been playing the game for some time. So it also shouldn’t be surprising to come across less-than-appropriate individuals in-game.

I was in Arathi Basin on my new human hunter when I came across a tauren paladin named… Rapezilla. Of course it only took as long for my brain to read the word for me to report this jerk.

Today I received the response to my ticket:

Draenei vs. Dwarf: The Smackdown

Today is THE day!  Patch 4.0.3a is dropping and Blizzard has retracted their “No race changes with 4.0.3a” stance.  So I’m interested…

For Alliance shaman, there has always only been one choice (and before The Burning Crusade, there wasn’t a choice!):  Draenei.  This patch, however, add dwarf to that list!

My Week in Warcraft #2

Phase 4 of the Elemental Invasion was this week AND Patch 4.0.3! Wow, lots of stuff.

What have I been up to? Decided to categorize this stuff to make it more visually appealing..or some junk.

Achievements

Professions

Other

  • Made a troll rogue on Kalecgos-US(PVP) named Sorroe.  She’s a ton of fun and looks really badass while stealthed and sneaking around.
  • Made a gnome warlock (yes, it is a sickness I have) named Gizzie.
  • Trying to help (and not muck up) with filling out the TotemSpot Wiki.  Go check it out!

Next week might be the Shattering of Azeroth, so that is something to look forward to!

Feelin' Lucky?

So after about 4 asinine computer/graphic design questions -in a row- this morning, I created a new chart to help these hapless individuals re-prioritize their codependency. I have set this to “public” so it can be shared. Please do not remove the credit tag. If you do, I will hunt you down. Or cry myself to sleep at night (not really, I am out like a light at 8:30pm…)

Chart to display your mood.

Elemental Invasion Antics

Phase 4 of the Elemental Invasion launch event started today and somehow morphed into Mammothville in both Stormwind and Ironforge on Misha-US.

The 4 bosses were kinda tough. They each had about 1 million health and at least 2 had a knockback. The Princess’s knockback was really annoying because you don’t see it until it’s too late (hint: a shadow appears under you about 2 seconds before you’re knocked). In all, the loot drops are nice and the fights are challenging. MMO-Champion has the shared loot table. If you have time, go check out this phase! Neat-o!

My Week in Warcraft #1

Lots of other blogs do this sort of thing and I wanted to try it mainly so I can have something to look back on wistfully.

Without further ado:

  • Maxed engineering on Reura! As such, she was able to finally make Jeeves. Jeeves is really cool.
  • Decided on an arcane mage for my worgen.  It will be male because I’m not impressed with the female model. Plus I can name him after my husband’s nickname, Shuggie. And he will be a pretty pretty prince(ss)!
  • Realized that I should probably get the heirloom weapon for my worgen mage. He will need it, I think.
  • Started a little troll rogue on a new server since my brother in law made one. I saw him do Shadowstep + Ambush and got insanely jealous. So little Sorroe was born (pronounced like ‘sorrow’).  She’s even won a Warsong Gulch match AND stopped 3 people from taking the flag! Rawr!
  • Also finished three of the Classic dungeon achievements: King of Dire Maul, Scholomance, and Lower Blackrock Spire.  I got almost to Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire, but ended up going into stupid Blackwing Lair and was teleported way outside the whole instance when I left BWL. I was so frustrated I just hearthed back to Dalaran. X|

Since it’s possible that patch 4.0.3 may drop next week (some people are saying 11/16, some are saying 11/23…we will only know when we log in ;D), my next Week in Warcraft may have some even better news.  Like I out-leveled my brother in law. hahahyarite.

A Custom UI

I tend to ride the fence on using a customized user interface for WoW.  I really love tweaking the UI to make it just the way I want it, but then I get a LUA error and I dump the whole thing.  I never really thought about hiding those errors, maybe I should get an addon for that.

Anyway, I created my own custom UI back in the summer and recently reinstalled it to see what if I still liked it.  My main is an elemental/enhancement shaman, so my rotation and DoT tracking needs are less than, say, a warlock or even a warrior.  But the majority of my DPS is built around using abilities as soon as available (Lava Burst) or when a certain amount of time is left on my single DoT (Flame Shock) or when I have a 7-9 stack of Lightning Shield.  So I need to know these things, front and center of my face.

I developed this custom UI when I was leveling my warrior back in the summer.  I’ve tweaked it to be compatible with Patch 4.0.1 and my shaman.

Note: Names of party members are displayed just like my character’s name.  I’ve just taken it out here.

Annotated Shot (Some stuff is still hidden):

I’ve actually reverted back to the default UI (with convenience addons like TotemTimers, Arkinventory, Postal, DBM, Skada, etc).  I don’t know what it is, but I’m too used to the default UI just working. It’s not very pretty, but it gets the job done so I can do mine.

/sigh
Edit:  I may give this another try.

Also: See the dead gnome on the floor (My party companion)?  Yeah, that’s how my husband plays his gnome.  He’s more comfortable on the floor than doing silly things like…stayingoutofaggrorange. >_>

Snake Draft Stopper!

Our house was built in 1957 and has a lot of character.  One trait: draftiness.  This winter will be our second in the house and we’ve decided to make it a lot more comfortable (one electric heater, one oil heater, zillions of blankets, etc = last winter).  We went to JoAnn fabric this morning and I got some nice wintry fabric, some great buttons and red felt.

This project was moving along fairly well considering that I had no real idea for how to actually make the snake shape other than to create a fabric tube.  I’ve seen some patterns online, but they were either too simple (straight sewn ends, blah) or too advanced for my sewing skills.  So I decided to just run with it and figure it out as I go along.

My husband helped me with the end (getting it so that it wasn’t just a straight seam) and I figured out how to sew the “face” to make it “snake-ish”.  All in all, quick project that took about 2 hours.
